Video Not Working In miingl (Unable To Obtain Streaming Device)

Intro

If your camera isn’t turning on—or you can’t join a miingl session because of a camera error—this is usually caused by permissions, device selection, or another app using your camera.

This guide walks through the most common fixes to get your video working quickly.

What This Helps You Fix

Use this guide if:

  • Your camera won’t turn on

  • Other participants can’t see you

  • You’re seeing an error when joining

  • miingl won’t let you enter the session

Including the error:
“Unable to obtain streaming device”

Start Here: The Most Common Fixes

1. Make Sure Camera Permissions Are Allowed (Very Important)

miingl runs in your browser, so camera permissions must be granted at the browser level.

Check that:

  • Your browser has permission to use your camera

  • The permission is set to Allow, not Ask or Block

You can usually check this by:

  • Clicking the lock or camera icon in your browser’s address bar

  • Opening your browser’s site settings

  • Refreshing the page after allowing access

If permissions are blocked, miingl cannot access your camera at all.

2. Select The Correct Camera In miingl

If you have more than one camera (built-in, external webcam, etc.), miingl may be trying to use the wrong one.

To switch cameras:

  • Click the arrow next to the camera icon

  • Select the correct camera from the list

This often fixes video issues immediately, especially if:

  • You plugged in a webcam after opening the browser

  • You’re using a laptop with both front and rear cameras

  • You switched devices recently

If You See This Error Message

“Unable to obtain streaming device”

This error means miingl cannot access your camera.

Common causes include:

  • Camera permissions are blocked

  • Another app is using your camera

  • The wrong camera is selected

  • The camera is disconnected or unavailable

Follow the steps below to resolve it.

Check For Camera Conflicts

Only one application can use your camera at a time.

Make sure your camera is not currently in use by:

  • Zoom

  • Google Meet

  • Microsoft Teams

  • Slack

  • Any other video app or browser tab

Close those apps completely, then refresh miingl and try again.

Restart Your Browser Or Device

If the camera still isn’t available:

  • Close all browser windows

  • Reopen your browser

  • Return to the miingl session

If needed, restart your device. This clears camera locks and resets hardware access.

Use A Supported Browser

miingl works best in modern browsers like:

  • Chrome

  • Edge

  • Safari (latest version)

If video isn’t working:

  • Try switching browsers

  • Make sure your browser is fully up to date

Still Not Working?

If you’ve checked permissions, selected the correct camera, and closed other apps—but video still won’t turn on:

  • Double-check your system camera settings

  • Try joining from another browser or device

  • Ask the miingl community

  • Contact miingl support and include:

    • Your device type

    • Your browser

    • The error message you’re seeing

This helps us resolve the issue faster.
